A review of data concerning nearly 128,000 men and women showed that individuals who normally sit for six or more hours per day have a 19% higher risk of early death than those who sit fewer than three hours per day. Excessive sitting may also increase one’s risk for the following: some cancers; heart disease; stroke; diabetes; kidney disease; suicide; chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD); lung disease; liver disease; peptic ulcer and other digestive disease; Parkinson’s disease; Alzheimer’s disease; nervous disorders; and musculoskeletal disorders.
