Kinesiophobia, or fear of movement, is a common occurrence among patients with musculoskeletal pain and can increase the risk for prolonged pain and disability. A review of data from 60 published studies revealed that manual therapies reduced fear-avoidance beliefs among patients with chronic back pain. Doctors of chiropractic often utilize manual therapies and other conservative treatment options to reduce pain and improve function in patients with chronic back pain and other musculoskeletal disorders.
